About Evaluations
If you are seeking a psychological or neuropsychological evaluation, we will begin with a conversation about your concerns, the questions you would like answered, and how an evaluation may be helpful. Based on your needs, we will schedule an appointment lasting between 2 and 4 hours, during which I will conduct an interview and administer tests and assessment measures tailored to your situation.
Most evaluations are completed over one to three appointments, depending on the complexity of the questions being addressed, the amount of testing required, and whether information from family members, caregivers, healthcare providers, case managers, or other important individuals is needed.
Common reasons for seeking an evaluation include:
Understanding changes in memory, attention, problem-solving, communication, or other thinking skills following a neurological injury or illness
Identifying strengths and challenges in daily functioning after conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, or other neurological disorders
Clarifying how emotional, psychological, cognitive, and health-related factors may be affecting work, school, relationships, independence, or quality of life
Evaluating readiness for returning to work, school, athletics, or other meaningful activities
Disability and rehabilitation-related evaluations specific to workplace injury
Baseline and follow-up cognitive assessments for individuals participating in high-risk athletics
At the conclusion of the evaluation process, you will receive a written report that identifies the diagnosis (if applicable), summarizes the findings, addresses the referral questions, and provides recommendations for treatment, accommodations, rehabilitation services, and other resources as appropriate. When helpful, we will also schedule a feedback session to review the results together and discuss recommendations in detail.
Some individuals who initially see me for an evaluation later choose to work with me in therapy. Others use the information gained from the evaluation to guide treatment decisions and future planning with their healthcare team, vocational rehabilitation counselor, employer, school, or family.
